Cataract Surgery Made Easy: In-Office Cataract Removal

Eye surgeon withdraws an IOL from a protective case during cataract surgery When planning cataract surgery, you want less stress and more peace of mind. We get it: After all, it’s a major procedure and a life-changing event. Getting clear vision is well worth undergoing surgery—but what if we told you that surgery could be easier? It’s true at Milwaukee Eye Surgeons, where our board-certified ophthalmologist and experienced surgeon, Dr. Kenneth Weinlander, performs cataract surgery in our state-of-the-art surgery suite in our Brookfield, WI, office.

Dr. Weinlander and our highly trained specialists are passionate about providing our patients with the most efficient and comfortable solutions, and our convenient surgery options are a cornerstone of that care.

Drawbacks of the Traditional Cataract Surgery Process

At Milwaukee Eye Surgeons, we know that the traditional cataract surgery experience in a hospital or ambulatory surgery center can be daunting. Patients often face:

  • Fasting: Due to the type of anesthesia typically used in cataract surgery, patients must have a completely empty stomach before the procedure. That usually means fasting (no food or drinks) starting at midnight the night prior. By the time of surgery, many patients feel less-than-great due to hunger and tiredness.
  • Intravenous (IV) Needles: Nobody likes needles, and some people have needle phobias. Still others have veins that don’t easily accept needles. Hospital-based cataract surgery requires needle IV sedation, which can induce serious anxiety in patients who may already be a little stressed.
  • Two Surgeries, Weeks Apart: Cataract surgery is performed one eye at a time. In most cases, patients have two surgeries a couple of weeks apart. The surgeries are inevitably in two different places, with two other teams attending. This uncertainty can add to an already anxious time.

The Office-Based Cataract Surgery Difference

Dr. Weinlander performs cataract surgery at Milwaukee Eye Surgeons in our well-appointed modern surgical suite. This gives you some big advantages over the traditional hospital or surgery center approach, including:

  • No needles
  • No fasting (you can enjoy a light meal that day)
  • Comfortable atmosphere, with the same familiar team around you
  • Surgeries are scheduled as little as a day apart

Another big benefit of office-based cataract surgery is the cost. You can save a significant amount of money in facility and anesthesia fees, but the quality of surgical care you get is still superior. Dr. Weinlander and our team also provide follow-up care with a personalized touch, ensuring you feel comfortable and confident from start to finish.
